Project F - In Search of the Treasure of Lost Feelings is the third studio album released in 1991 and the first tribute album by the German singer, composer and producer Stephan Remmler . It only contains cover versions of songs by German pop singer Freddy Quinn .
Emergence
After Stephan Remmler's first son Cecil Remmler was born at the end of 1988, Remmler withdrew from the public for a while. In 1990 a best-of compilation was released under the name 10 Jahre bei der Stange with Remmler's greatest hits solo and with a trio , on which a demo version of a song from the album Projekt F is as a bonus track ( Weit ist der Weg ).
Remmler came up with the idea of recording a music album with Freddy Quinn songs by chance when he bought a best-of compilation of the singer in a Cologne record store in December 1988. The timeless emotionality of the songs motivated Remmler to re-record these songs. When he presented the idea to his record company Mercury Records , however, he caused some irritation there:
“When I came up with the idea of recording an entire album of Freddy songs, my manager and the record company were flat out for a while. They had to lift one up and have a nice drink before they could finally get used to it. In any case it was a big shock for her. "
production
While Remmler always produced his earlier albums in different studios and in different countries, the album Project F was completely recorded in the Can Studios in Weilerswist . The work dragged on from August 1990 to January 1991. Remmler was accompanied during the entire production by the German keyboardist Helmut Zerlett . Of Remmler's earlier accompanists, only bassist Ken Taylor was involved in the production. Drums were played by George B. Miller, with whom Remmler became known in Northern Germany in the 1960s in the band Just Us . Miller later reported in an interview that Remmler, completely surprisingly, asked him to play drums on the production during a visit to Bremerhaven.
reception
The album received consistently poor reviews. In particular, Remmler's economical instrumentation and vocal performance were criticized:
“Remmler speaks more than he sings, and the programmed computer keyboards look so sparse, as if he [Remmler] had consciously wanted to save electricity. So much cool distance is rather detrimental to the germination of great feelings. "
Neither the album nor the two singles were able to make it into the charts.
