Prototype is an American progressive metal band from Los Angeles , California that was formed in 1994. The group has played with bands like Fates Warning , Strapping Young Lad , Death , Hammerfall , Nevermore , Mercyful Fate , Entombed , Exodus , Flotsam and Jetsam , Morbid Angel and Grip Inc.
history
The band was formed in 1994 from the break-up of the thrash metal band Psychosis and consisted of guitarist Kragen Lum and guitarist and singer Vince Levalois. Together with a new bass player and a new drummer, the band recorded their first demo seed . This was followed by a few appearances to promote the demo. In 1997 the band went back to the studio to record the EP Cloned . The new drummer was Pat Magrath, previously with Killing Culture and Steel Prophet . Bassist Kirk Scherer joined the band in 1999. Magrath left the band in 2002. Since then the post of drummer has changed. Nic Ritter ( Warbringer ) was heard on a demo release in 2008. In 2009 Magrath then rejoined the band as a permanent drummer. In 2004 the band released their debut album Trinity on Massacre Records , the Nightmare Records album Continuum in 2006 and Catalyst in 2012. In addition, the band contributed songs for many computer games such as, Guitar Hero III , MTX: Motocross , True Crime : Streets of LA and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam .

The band plays classic progressive metal, the music being comparable to that of Nevermore .
