The Province de Liège school coupling association was built by the shipyard Gebr. Jooren for the Belgian École de Polytechnique in Huy to train prospective inland waterway skippers . The unit was baptized and dedicated on May 4, 2012. The old school ship Libertas , a Péniche from 1921, was replaced by it.
use
The 85-meter-long school coupling system was built to replace the old school ship Libertas and its dimensions are also suitable for travel on the Canal du Nord . The length of 85 meters is required to obtain the Belgian inland navigation license. The barge can also sail alone on the Canal de Saint-Quentin . Both ships are equipped with all of the modern monitoring and operating devices that are currently used on inland waterway vessels to train prospective inland waterway skippers .
