Pseudosasa is agenus of bamboo belonging to the Subertribus Arundinariinae.
description
Pseudosasa are medium-sized bamboo species with a stature height of 50 cm ( Pseudosasa owatarii Pygmaee) to 13 m ( Pseudosasa amabilis ). They form a twig per node and have elongated leaves whose stalk sheaths stick. They form runners . Propagation is possible by dividing the clumps or by using rhizome sections.
etymology
The generic name Pseudosasa is derived from the Greek pseudo = false and from the Japanese sasa = "bamboo grass".
Systematics and distribution
It was first described by Nakai Takenoshin .
The genus consists of 19 (up to 36) species from southern China, northern Vietnam, Korea and the extreme south of Japan; almost all species are native to China.
It is divided into the sub-genera:
- Subgenus Pseudosasa
- Subgenus Sinicae S.L. Chen & GYSheng
