Psychiko ( Greek Ψυχικό ( n. Sg. ), Also outdated Psychikon ) is a suburb of Athens. It is located south of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex and north of downtown Athens.
Psychiko was spun off from the Chalandri community in 1929 and was initially a rural community (kinotita). In 1944 it was upgraded to a township (dimos), which was withdrawn in 1945 and finally carried out again in 1982. On January 1, 2011, Psychiko was merged with Filothei and Neo Psychiko to form the new Filothei-Psychiko municipality , where it has since formed a municipality and houses the municipal administration.
Psychiko is a purely residential area, commercial business is only permitted in the two restricted areas “Nea Agora” (New Market Place) and “Palia Agora” (Old Market Place). Psychiko used to be home to many aristocratic families and members of the royal family and is still one of the wealthiest districts of Athens to this day. Many consulates and embassies are based in Psychiko.
