Psychonaut is an Australian rock and metal band from Perth that was formed around 1999.

history

The band was founded around 1999 and consisted of singer and guitarist Mark De Vattimo ( Voyager , Pathogen ), bassist Stevie Vella and drummer Theo Ongarezos. In 1998 the latter was briefly replaced by Steve Hidden (ex- Allegiance ) before Ongarezos returned to the cast. In 2000 the band began work on the debut album Masters of Procrastination! held at Pet Rock Studios in Perth with producer Leighton Hughes . Daniel Estrin from Voyager contributed keyboard sounds. In 2002 Ongerezos was replaced by Sebastian Giorgi. In January 2004, Prime Cuts released Music Masters of Procrastination! after being remastered by De Vattimo and Aidan Barton of Pathogen. In May 2005 Simone Dow joined as the new guitarist. Dow also joined Voyager at the same time. Towards the end of the year, Vella also left the band. He was replaced by 17-year-old Alex Canion. in February 2007 the group began work on their second album, which was to be called The Sounds of Horror . However, it finally appeared in 2012 under the name Shock 'Em Dead! . In their career, the band has played with Death Angel , Exodus , Finntroll , Frankenbok , Lord and Armored Saint, among others, and was also seen at Rock in Solo in Indonesia in 2013.

style

According to Brian Fischer-Giffin, the group plays cheeky, loud and wild metal that draws its influence from the mid-1980s. On their Facebook profile, the group states Mercyful Fate , Loudness , Motörhead , Black Sabbath , Kiss , WASP and Slayer as influences. Quentin Kalis from chroniclesofchaos.com named the music of Masters of Procrastination! as “delightful heavy retro rock ”. Musically, the group tends more towards rock and punk than towards metal and is roughly reminiscent of Kyuss and very much of Metalucifer . Alice Cooper and The Misfits could be named as influences . In the songs, the group's preference for B-movies would emerge. Mitch Booth of metalobsession.net was in his review for Shock 'Em Dead! that the band plays Motörhead-style music and a mixture of hard rock and speed metal . The song False Metal is about writing a metal song, with the lyrics based on Manowar and Cannibal Corpse . In terms of text, one orientates oneself mostly on horror films .
