Réjane , actually Gabrielle Charlotte Réju (born June 5, 1856 in Paris , † June 14, 1920 in Asnières-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine department ) was a French actress ( soubrette ).

Live and act

Réjane studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , where François-Joseph Regnier (1807–1885) was one of her most important teachers.

Even during her training, Réjane caused a sensation with her appearances and her official debut in 1880 in Dumas ' play Un père prodigue both audiences and critics were extremely enthusiastic.

In 1893 Réjane married the actor Paul Porel (1843-1917). The marriage had two children: Jacques (1893–1982), who later became a writer, and Germaine , who later became an actress. Réjane and her family settled in the 8th arrondissement (Avenue Franklin-D.-Roosevelt).

In 1905 Réjane divorced her husband. The following year she took over the Théâtre de Paris ( 9th arrondissement ) from Aurélien-Marie Lugné-Poe and ran it under the name Théâtre Réjane until 1918. After the First World War , she sold the theater to Léon Volterra (1888-1949) and moved back into private life.

She settled in Asnières-sur-Seine, where she died two years later on June 14, 1920. She found her final resting place on the Cimetière de Passy .
