The Réserve écologique Marcel-Raymond is a protected area established in 1987 on an area of 64.21 hectares in the extreme south of the Canadian province of Québec in the regional county municipality of Le Haut-Richelieu .

It is on the Pointe du Gouvernement on the Richelieu River . It protects a forest in which two-tone oaks ( Quercus bicolor ), which are rare in Canada and prefer the embankments of the Richelieu, are found. Their leaves have different colors on the top and bottom.

The subsoil of the protected area consists exclusively of sedimentary rock . During the time of the Champlain Sea, clay , silt and sand were deposited over it. The area is humid, with moor and swamp, alluvial and wetlands, as well as herbier marins , plant communities that are constantly in shallows coexist. Two thirds of the area consists of marshland in which trees grow, whereby the two-tone oak prefers less humid areas. In addition to this species, there is silver maple ( Acer saccharinum ), a tree species that is also rarely found in Québec. Both species are in the higher regions where the ground is gleyed. There is also the red ash ( Fraxinus pennsylvanica ), also called Pensylvanian ash ( French Frêne rouge de Pennsylvanie ), silver maple and red maple .

The wet grass areas contain cane grass ( French Phalaris roseau ), Spartina pectinata from the genus of the silt grass or the broad-leaved cattail .

At least seven endangered plant species can be found in the protected area: Aster fragilis from the genus of asters , Carex lupuliformis and Carex typhina , two types of sedges , Gratiola aurea from the genus of mercy herbs , Lysimachia hybrida , a loosestrife , Platanthera flava (Linnaeus) Lindley (French: Platanthère à gorge tuberculée var. Petite-herbe) from the genus of forest hyacinths and Zizania aquatica var. Aquatica , a species from the genus water rice .

Numerous water bird species use the area, six frog species , but the area has been badly affected by agriculture.

The name of the area goes back to the botanist Marcel Raymond (1915–1972) from Saint-Jean d'Iberville , who made the vegetation of Québec known to wider circles with several works, including his Esquisse phytogéographique du Québec (1950).
