The Río Daule is the right source river of the Río Guayas in western Ecuador .
River course
The Río Daule has a length of 260 km (including the source river Río Peripa : 380 km). It forms the outflow of the Daule-Peripa reservoir . It flows mainly in a southerly direction and forms many river loops in parts . In the upper 35 kilometers, the river forms the border between the provinces of Manabí and Guayas . Then it runs within the province of Guayas. The cities of Pichincha , Balzar , Colimes , Palestina , Santa Lucía , Daule and Nobol lie on the river . The Río Daule finally unites at Guayaquil with the Río Babahoyo coming from the east to form the Río Guayas .
The E48 trunk road follows the course of the river from Balzar to Guayaquil.
Hydrology
The catchment area of around 13,000 km² extends over the western part of the coastal lowlands ( Costa ). It is bounded in the west by the Cordillera Chongón-Colonche , in the north it extends to the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados . In the west it borders on that of the Río Vinces (in the upper reaches of the Río Quevedo ), a right tributary of the Río Babahoyo . The catchment area therefore does not include the slopes of the Andes . In the catchment area of the Río Daule, mainly coffee and cocoa are grown. The mean discharge of the Río Daule is 380 m³ / s. It contributes 40 percent to the total runoff of the Río Guayas. The discharge fluctuates very strongly depending on the season. In the rainy season it is six times higher than during the dry season.
Daule Peripa Hydroelectric Power Plant
The power plant has an installed capacity of 213 MW. The reservoir has a water volume of 6 billion cubic meters. The project is used for energy generation, irrigation and runoff control as well as the drinking water supply.
Daule-Vinces drainage channel
The derivative project Trasvase Daule – Vinces (Dauvin) was realized in the 2010s. A weir ( ⊙ ) was built at river kilometer 160 . Above this, about 9 km northeast of the city of Colimes, the drainage channel ( ⊙ ) branches off to the east. The channel is designed for a water flow of 97 m³ / s. The project serves to irrigate 215,000 hectares of arable land.
