Source rivers
The Río Güiza arises near Altaquer at the confluence of the Río El Guabo and Río Blanco .
The Río El Guabo , the right source river, has a length of 55 km. It rises in the area ( ⊙ ) between the volcanoes Cumbal and Azufral . It flows in a predominantly north-westerly direction. The highway I-10 ( Tulcán - Tumaco ) follows the course of the river. At river kilometer 19 the river passes the municipality of Ricaurte .
The Río Blanco (also Río Vargas) is the left source river. It rises on the western slope of the Cumbal volcano ( ⊙ ). The Río Blanco flows in a predominantly north-northwest direction through the mountains of the Western Cordillera and meets the Río El Guabo after 50 km.
River course
The Río Güiza initially flows 50 km in a predominantly north-westerly direction through the western foothills of the Western Cordillera. The I-10 trunk road runs north of the river. In the lower reaches of the Río Güiza turns towards the west-southwest. At rivers 24 and 16, the rivers Río Albi and Río Nulpe , both coming from the south, flow into the Río Güiza. Eventually this flows into the lower reaches of the Río Mira 10 km north of the Ecuadorian border.
