River course
The Río Pichis arises 12.5 km southeast of the city of Puerto Bermúdez at an altitude of about 250 m at the confluence of the Río Nazaratequi (left, approx. 75 km long) and Río Neguachi (right, approx. 115 km, with source rivers: 160 km ). The Río Pichis flows mainly in a northerly direction, with larger and smaller river loops . At river kilometer 132, the Río Azupizu meets the Río Pichis on the left when coming from the south. 10 km downstream, the Río Pichis passes the town of Puerto Bermúdez on the west bank. At river kilometer 93 the Río Anacayali flows into the Río Pichis on the right. At river kilometer 50 the Río Apurucayalí meets the Río Pichis coming from the east. There are several smaller settlements along the river. The Río Pichis finally unites 11 km east-southeast of the city of Ciudad Constitución at an altitude of 216 m with the Río Palcazú flowing from the east to the Río Pachitea. The national road 5N from Ciudad Constitución to Puerto Bermúdez runs in north-south direction at a distance of about 5 km west of the river.
Catchment area
The approximately 10,200 km² catchment area of the Río Pichis lies in the pre-Andine zone. It is located in the Puerto Bermúdez and Constitución districts of the Oxapampa Province. The administrative border to the neighboring provinces is based on the watershed . The catchment area is enclosed in the west and south by the ridge of the Cordillera de San Matías-San Carlos and in the east by the Sira Mountains (Cordillera El Sira).
