The Constitución District is one of eight districts of the province Oxapampa in the region Pasco in Peru . It was formed in 2010 from parts of the Puerto Bermúdez district. The district extends over an area of 3171 km² (according to other sources: 3053 km²). In the 2017 census, 13,634 inhabitants were counted in the district. Eight Asháninka villages and three Yanesha villages belong to it . The administrative center is the city of Ciudad Constitución , located at an altitude of 239 m on the Río Palcazú , with 6334 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Constitución district extends over the suburban region on the edge of the Amazon basin in the northeast of the Oxapampa province. The two headwaters of the Río Pachitea , Río Palcazú and Río Pichis flow through the west of the district. The eastern part of the district is criss-crossed by the ridges of the up to 2300 m high Sira Mountains . The district Constitución borders in the north on the district Yuyapichis ( province Puerto Inca ), in the east on the district Iparía ( province Coronel Portillo ), in the south on the district Puerto Bermúdez and in the west on the district Palcazú .
