The Villa Rica district is located in the Oxapampa Province in the Pasco region in central Peru . It was founded on November 27, 1944. The district has an area of 859.23 km² (according to other sources: 788 km²). The 2017 census counted 17,274 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 14,739, in 2007 it was 18,619. The administrative seat is the city of Villa Rica at an altitude of 1470 m with 11,036 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Villa Rica district is located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Yanachaga in the south of the Oxapampa province. The south-western part of the district is drained to the south via the Río Perené , the north-eastern part to the north via the Río Palcazú .
The district of Villa Rica is bordered by the Oxapampa district to the west, the Palcazú district to the north, the Puerto Bermúdez district to the east and the Perené and San Luis de Shuaro districts to the south (both in the Chanchamayo province ).
