The Oxapampa district is located in the Oxapampa Province in the Pasco administrative region in Peru . The district was founded on May 14, 1876. It extends over an area of ​​412 km². The 2017 census counted 16,565 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 12,826 and in 2007 14,190. The seat of the district administration is the provincial capital Oxapampa .

Geographical location

The Oxapampa district is located on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Huancabamba , the right source of the Río Pozuzo , crosses the northern part of the district in a northerly direction. In the extreme south of the district, the Río Paucartambo flows southeast. The Cordillera Yanachaga extends along the eastern district boundary.

The Oxapampa district borders the Chontabamba district to the west, the Huancabamba and Palcazú districts to the north, the Villa Rica district to the east, and the San Luis de Shuaro and Chanchamayo districts (both in the Chanchamayo province ) and Ulcumayo ( province Junín ).
