The Palcazú district is located in the Oxapampa Province in the Pasco administrative region in Peru . The district was established on June 6, 1986. It has an area of 2887 km². The 2017 census counted 8257 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5687, in 2007 it was 8810. The district administration is based in the 275 m high village of Iscozacín with 2056 inhabitants (as of 2017). Iscozacín is located at the confluence of the Río Iscozacín in the Río Palcazú , about 50 km northeast of the provincial capital Oxapampa .
Geographical location
The Palcazú district is centrally located in the Oxapampa province. It encompasses the basin landscape between the Cordillera Yanachaga mountain ranges in the west and the Cordillera de San Matías-San Carlos in the east. The Río Palcazú flows through the area in a northerly direction. The Oxapampa-Asháninka-Yánesha Biosphere Reserve extends over the south of the district.
The Palcazú district borders on the Huancabamba and Pozuzo districts to the west, the Codo del Pozuzo district ( Puerto Inca province ) to the north, the Constitución and Puerto Bermúdez districts to the east, and the Villa Rica and Oxapampa districts to the south .
