Porce II dam

The Río Porce is a 140 km long river in north central Colombia , in the Department of Antioquia . It is the most important tributary of the Río Nechí , into which it flows on the right.

River course

The Río Porce arises at the confluence of the Río Medellín and Río Grande near Puente Gabino , 50 km northeast of the city of Medellín . The river flows through the Central Cordillera in a predominantly north-northeast direction and flows into the Río Nechí 6 km southeast of the city of Zaragoza . It has a height difference of 978 m on its course. The dams Porce II (at river kilometer 94) and Porce III (at river kilometer 75) lie on the course of the river . Above the Porce III reservoir, at river kilometer 88, the Río Guadalupe meets the Río Porce from the left. Río Riachón , Río Mata and Río Caná are notable tributaries from the right, which flow into the Río Porce at river kilometers 32, 22 and 8. The small town of Amalfi is 6 km east of the middle reaches.
