The Río Guadalupe is a 58 km long left tributary of the Río Porce in north-central Colombia in the Department of Antioquia .

River course

The Río Guadalupe flows through the Central Cordillera of Colombia. The headwaters located at an altitude of around 2480  m are 7 km south of the small town of Santa Rosa de Osos and 35 km northeast of the city of Medellín . The Río Guadalupe initially flows 25 km in a predominantly east-northeast direction. Then he turns to the north-northeast. At river kilometer 21, the Río Guadalupe passes the village of Carolina del Príncipe further west . The river is then dammed by the Troneras dam. This is located 12.5 km above the mouth of the Río Guadalupe. Water is fed to the Troneras reservoir from the catchment area of the Río Nechí located further to the west and the Miraflores dam located there . There is a weir at river kilometer 10 . About 500 m below the weir is the mostly dry waterfall Salto de Guadalupe . The river water is fed from the weir to the Guadalupe III hydropower plant . Below this, the water reaches a collecting basin, from which a water pipe leads to the Guadalupe IV hydropower plant . This means that the diverted water only returns to the river 1.4 km above the mouth. The Río Guadalupe finally flows into the Río Porce. This is dammed below the confluence of the Río Guadalupe over a length of 13 km from the Porce III dam.
