history

Rödeby Church

Rödeby existed from 1863 to 1973 as an independent municipality and was incorporated into Karlskrona as part of the municipal reform in 1974. Until the 1930s, the parish consisted of farms and a shop next to the church. From the 1940s and especially in the 1970s, the place experienced a pronounced development into a closed town. There was a district nurse since 1931, and a doctor's practice followed in the mid-1940s. In 1945 a shop was opened and in 1946 a fire station was built. In 1954 a community hall was built, which also housed a cold store and the police.

Since Rödeby was a wealthy community, numerous projects were decided on for the locality before the merger with Karlskrona. In the 1970s, a nursing home, a health center with a pharmacy, a business center, a kindergarten and a school with a swimming pool, sports hall and library were built.

geology

Rödeby lies on the edge of the Karlskrona deformation zone. The Rödeby gabbro in Rödeby - a rock of the earth's mantle - is very similar to the bed load found on Rügen, so that Rödeby can be regarded as the origin of this bed load.
