The Röthenbach (also Rötenbach) is a 17 kilometer long left tributary of the Emme in the Swiss canton of Bern . It flows through the municipalities of Eggiwil , Röthenbach im Emmental and Wachseldorn , draining around 54 square kilometers of the upper Emmental .

The river has its source below the Turner ( 1306  m ) just under the municipality of Eggiwil . It flows in a north-westerly direction and initially takes in dozens of small streams, which arise mainly on the north slope of the Honegg . It passes Oberei, briefly forms the border between Wachseldorn and Röthenbach and now flows north. The river touches the village center of Röthenbach, takes up the Jassbach and now flows in a north-easterly direction to its confluence with the Emme near Eggiwil.
