Rüdiger Bohn

Rüdiger Bohn (* 1960 in Lübeck ) is a German conductor .

Life

He gained an international reputation especially in the field of new music . He is musical director and co-founder of the Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin , first guest conductor of the TIMF ensemble in Korea and professor of conducting at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. He received his artistic training in piano and conducting at the music academies in Cologne and Düsseldorf. He graduated from both courses with distinction. He won several international chamber music competitions, for example in Florence and Bordeaux, and performed regularly as a concert pianist before he decided to pursue a conducting career , encouraged by masterclasses with Leonard Bernstein , Sergiu Celibidache and Sir John Eliot Gardiner .

As a musical assistant at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels , Bohn gained his first experience in the new profession and was then hired as Kapellmeister at the Basel Theater. From 1997 to 2002 he was first conductor at the Lübeck Theater. Guest conductors have taken him to the opera houses of Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Nancy. As part of his international concert activities, he conducted a. a. the Orchester de la Suisse Romande Genève, the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne , the Orchester Radio-Symphonique de Luxembourg, the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI in Rome and Turin, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Korean Symphony Orchestra. Concert tours have taken him to Italy, France, Spain, Korea, the USA and Canada.

From 1997 to 2007 Rüdiger Bohn was musical director of the Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin. Here he conducted all previous productions with works by Hans Werner Henze , Mauricio Kagel , Giorgio Battistelli , Morton Feldman , Aribert Reimann , Qu Xiao-song, Adriana Hölszky , Frank Martin , Salvatore Sciarrino , Peter Maxwell Davies and Wolfgang Rihm . Most recently he directed Hans Zender's opera “Don Quixote” as a co-production with the Komische Oper Berlin .

Appearances at the Munich Biennale , the Warsaw Autumn , the WhyNote Festival in Dijon with the Klangforum Wien and the Salzburg Festival followed quickly. In addition, Rüdiger Bohn conducted at the musica viva concerts in Munich, at the international summer courses for new music and at the UltraSchall Festival Berlin. Invitations from the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Duisburg Philharmonic have been received.

Rüdiger Bohn has been the musical director of the EWCM - European Workshop for Contemporary Music since 1982. He teaches as a professor of conducting at the Robert Schumann University.
