Rüdiger Wohlers

Rüdiger Wohlers (born May 4, 1943 in Hamburg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Wohlers completed a vocal degree at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . He had his first engagement as a soloist from 1968 to 1971 at the Landestheater Darmstadt . In May 1969 he sang Telemaco there in a new production of the opera Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria by Claudio Monteverdi . In 1971 he moved to the Zurich Opera House . There he sang mainly the lyric tenor subject, especially in the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , Ferrando in Così fan tutte , Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte .

From 1974 Wohlers had a permanent engagement at the State Theater in Stuttgart . Here he sang, among other things, Filipeto in the opera Die Vier Grobiane in 1977, directed by Günther Rennert . In 1984 he sang Don Ottavio on the occasion of the reopening of the restored Stuttgart State Opera. In the 1980s he was seen there in the title role of Harry Kupfer's production of Idomeneo and alongside Krisztina Laki and Waltraud Meier as Lyonel in the Loriot production of the opera Martha . This production was also shown on television in 1986 . In recognition of his artistic merits at the Stuttgart State Opera, he was appointed chamber singer .

Regular guest appearances have taken him to the Hamburg State Opera (including 1984 in L'Ormindo by Francesco Cavalli ), the Bavarian State Opera and the Vienna State Opera (1973–1980, as Tamino, Belmonte, Ferrando, Don Ottavo, Ernesto in Don Pasquale ) . Since 1977 there has also been a guest contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin . In 1984 he also took part in a tour of Japan with the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera.

He performed at the Cologne Opera , at the Frankfurt Opera , at the Schwetzingen Festival (1975, as Belmonte), at the Salzburg Festival (1981, as Tamino), at La Scala in Milan (1983, as Ferrando), at the Covent Garden Opera (1990, title role in Idomeneo ) and at the city Theater of Freiburg (1997, when Severin in The Silver Lake by Kurt Weill ) on.

Other important roles by Rüdiger Wohlers were: Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor , Lenski in Eugene Onegin , Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville and Nemorino in The Love Potion .

He was also seen on German television. For example, on October 13, 1979, he appeared as a guest on the TV show One Will Win .
