Rüfət İlham oğlu Hüseynov (born April 25, 1997 in Gəncə ) is an Azerbaijani boxer in the light flyweight division .
Career
Rüfət Hüseynov is 1.69 m tall and trains at the Gilan Boxing Club in Baku . He reached fifth place at the 2011 European Schools Championships in Grozny and won the Azerbaijan Junior Championships in 2013. At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Kiev he was eliminated in the second fight, but won the silver medal at the Junior European Championships in Anapa in the same year .
At the 2014 Youth World Championships in Sofia he defeated Nico Hernández , among others , only lost in the semi-finals to Sulaymon Latipov and thus reached 3rd place. He then won the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing with a final victory against Sulaymon Latipov and reached his by then most significant success.
At the 2015 European Championships in Samokow , he competed in the elite class for the first time and won a bronze medal after losing to Harvey Horn in the semi-final . He then took part in the 2015 World Championships in Doha and defeated, among others, the eventual Olympic champion Hasanboy Do'smatov before he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Dmytro Samotajew .
In June 2016 he won the Olympic qualification tournament in Baku , defeating Joselito Velásquez and Samuel Carmona , among others . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he surprisingly lost in the first fight against Mathias Hamunyela from Namibia.
He won bronze at the U22 European Championships in 2019.
