The RMS Empress of England was a passenger ship of the Canadian shipping company Canadian Pacific Steamships that entered service in 1957. The ship , which has been used for cruises under the name Ocean Monarch since 1970 , remained in service until 1975 and was scrapped in Taiwan in the same year .
history
The Empress of England was at Vickers Armstrong in Newcastle-upon-Tyne built and from the May 9, 1956 stack left. After delivery to Canadian Pacific Steamships, the ship began the liner service from Liverpool to Montreal on April 18, 1957 .
Her last crossing as a liner passenger ship began the Empress of England on November 14, 1969. She then completed a few cruises before she was sold in 1970 to the Shaw, Savill & Albion Steamship Company .
Under the new name Ocean Monarch , the ship was henceforth used for cruises off Australia , but was occasionally also used for trips from Southampton and other destinations. In the spring of 1975, the Ocean Monarch suffered a machine failure, which resulted in a cruise being canceled. On April 26, 1975, the ship left Sydney Harbor for the last time and returned to Southampton, where it was offered for sale after a stay in dry dock.
Since no buyer could be found for the poorly preserved ship, the Ocean Monarch was sold in June 1975 for scrapping in Kaohsiung , Taiwan , where it was dismantled in the following months.
Her structurally identical sister ship was the Empress of Britain , which entered service in 1956 and remained in service until 2008.
