In the development

The MiG-41 is a project to develop a high-speed interceptor to replace the MiG-31 . The existence of the project was officially confirmed at the end of 2015 by MiG's General Director Sergei Korotkow.

While the importance of classic interceptors worldwide has decreased in favor of multi-purpose fighters, the Russian Air Force continues to operate 135 MiG-31s (as of 2016). The main reason for this is that Russia's vast land masses cannot be fully defended with “normal” fighter planes . The last expansion stage of the MiG-31, the MiG-31BM, will be able to remain in service until 2028, before the airframes reach their maximum service life. A successor model should therefore be available after 2020.

So far, no technical specifications for the MiG-41 are known. Speed figures of Mach number 4 - 4.3, as well as the use of ramjet engines are pure speculation.
