The Mikojan-Gurewitsch I-350 ( Russian Микоян-Гуревич И-350 ) is a Soviet experimental fighter for the supersonic range .
history
At the beginning of the 1950s, the Mikoyan design office created the I-350 as the starting point for a new generation of supersonic interceptors . The middle-wing aircraft, which at that time was still designated with the project code M and designed in all-metal half-shell construction, had newly developed wings with a leading edge arrowhead of 60 ° (other sources 55 °); The fuselage and tail were based closely on the MiG-17 tested at the same time . The TR-3A (AL-5) engine developed by Archip Ljulka was used as the propulsion system - the first jet engine designed solely by Soviet designers . The hydraulic system for the control, which had already been successfully tested in a MiG-15LL , was also newly developed .
The first prototype M-1 took off on its maiden flight on June 16, 1951, piloted by G. A. Sedow . It was equipped with an Isumrud two-antenna radio measuring sight . The two-seater trainer MT with RP-1 radio measurement visor and dual controls and a single-antenna radar Korschun equipped M-2 remained projects.
The flight test was accompanied by problems with the not fully developed Ljulka AL-5 engine (only its successor, the Ljulka AL-7, was a ready-to-use model), which is why the test was discontinued after only five test flights and the more promising test aircraft series SM , which later became the mass-produced supersonic interceptor MiG-19 .
