In the development

The RSK MiG-LMFS ( Russian РСК МиГ-ЛМФС , L jogki M nogofunkzionalny F rontowoi S amoljot, German  "Light multipurpose front -end aircraft " ) is a fighter aircraft based on the MiG 1.44 that is currently being developed . After the failure of "Project R-33" , the MiG-LMFS is the second more extensive attempt by Mikoyan-Gurevich (now RSK MiG) to develop a single-jet successor to the widespread MiG-21 and MiG-23 .

development

After the failure of the MiG 1.44, RSK MiG looked for ways to use the technological experience it had gained in other ways. Since the Russian air force had chosen the competitor Sukhoi for the PAK-FA program, from which the air superiority fighter Sukhoi Su-57 was developed, it was decided to design a light multi- role fighter aircraft . The MiG-LMFS, which is also called "Project 1.27", is a single-jet variant of the MiG 1.44 in the broadest sense. So the Saturn / Ljulka AL-41F - turbofan engine was to be installed again and the design again includes canards and tailless delta wings . No information is known about avionics . Since Mikojan-Gurewitsch is currently gaining experience in the field of stealth technology with the Skat drone , the lack of which the MiG 1.44 u. a. failed, it is possible that the MiG-LMFS exhibits stealth properties.

At the beginning of 2011, RSK MiG published concept graphics of the MiG-LMFS. These differ considerably from the first drafts. Instead of canards, elevators and angled rudders are now used again. The air inlets are on the bow and, like the American F-35 or the Chinese J-20, are designed as Diverterless Supersonic Inlet (DSI) . The entire design is now similar to the F-35 Lightning II, including the internal weapon bay and the now more extensive stealth features. RAC MiG plans to use the Klimow RD-33 engine of the MiG-29 .

It can be assumed that RSK MiG is attempting with the MiG-LMFS to offer an inexpensive alternative to the heavy and expensive aircraft types of the competitor Sukhoi. With regard to the older types MiG-21 , MiG-23 and MiG-27 , which are still in service worldwide and must be replaced in the next few years, the MiG-LMFS could be commercially successful in the world market. However, it is not yet known whether the Russian air forces support the MiG-LMFS, which would be decisive for the realization of the project, since the financing with the sales of the MiG-29 and MiG-35 would probably not be possible.
