Raúl Rojas González (born June 25, 1955 in Mexico City ) is Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Berlin , specializing in artificial neural networks .
Raúl Rojas became known, among other things, through the international success he achieved with his soccer-playing robots , the FU-Fighters .
Life
After completing his doctorate in social sciences at the Free University of Berlin, supervised by Elmar Altvater , he also received his habilitation there in computer science in 1993. He then took over a professorship for artificial intelligence at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 1994 to 1997. In 1996 he received German citizenship. Raúl Rojas has been teaching at the Free University of Berlin since 1997. There he was awarded the first Wolfgang von Kempelen Prize for the history of computer science . Together with his team, he received the award for his work on Konrad Zuse and the history of the computer . The main deciding factor for the award was the reconstruction of the Zuse Z3 calculating machine and the Plankalküls , the programming language of the computer inventor Zuse, as well as the creative use of information technology in the service of the history of computer science .
In 2007 Rojas worked with a research team from the Free University of Berlin on an automatically controlled car, the driverless prototype of which is called the " Spirit of Berlin ".
In 2010 he applied for the office of President of the Free University of Berlin alongside Peter-André Alt and Christiane Lemke , but withdrew his candidacy at the end of March 2010.
His wife Margarita Esponda Argüero is also a professor at the Free University of Berlin. They have a daughter together.
