St. Aegidius in Raas

Raas ( Italian Rasa ) is a village in South Tyrol and a fraction of the municipality of Naz-Sciaves . The village lies on a small plateau bordered by Eisack and Rienz in the Eisack Valley, immediately north of Brixen . Neighboring villages are Neustift in the southwest, Elvas in the southeast and Natz in the east.

The formerly small village has grown to over 500 residents due to the heavy influx of people in the 1970s and 1980s. The inhabitants are called Raia . The church of Raas is consecrated to St. Egidius and was first mentioned in 1173 as "ecclesia s (ancti) Egidii" . To the southeast of the town center is the Raier Moos , a protected wetland biotope with rare fauna and flora, which is also valued as a recreational area.
