Rabac is a place in Croatia on the Istrian peninsula in the Kvarner Bay .

history

Croats conquered the area between 599 and 611 . In 1276 the Istrian peninsula came under the control of Venice . After the fall of Venice in 1797 and the brief reign of France under Napoleon (1809–1813), Austria took control of the Croatian coastal country.

After the First World War , Rabac came to Italy; at the end of the Second World War , the region occupied by the Wehrmacht was liberated by the Allies in 1944 . In April 1944, the city itself was taken by Tito's partisans and in 1947 came to Yugoslavia with the Paris Peace Treaty . In 1991 the Republic of Croatia declared independence and was recognized under international law on January 23, 1992.

tourism

A previously known guest of Rabac was the English travel writer Richard Francis Burton , who was in Rabac in 1876. After getting to know Rabac and other coastal towns, he wrote the book Istrian Coast , in which he glorified the beauty and charm of picturesque Rabac. At that time the first summer houses were built in Rabac. One of the most beautiful summer houses belonged to the well-known Prohaska family from Rijeka , who came from the Czech Republic.

The beginnings of tourism go back to the end of the 19th century when the first day trippers visited Rabac. Today Rabac is a popular tourist destination and offers a wide range of gastronomy, boat trips and sports activities. There are stone and pebble beaches in the village.

The island of Cres lies in front of Rabac .
