Raban von Canstein (General)

Raban Freiherr von Canstein (born August 15, 1906 in Naugard ; † December 31, 2005 in Heidelberg ) was a great-grandson of Philipp Carl von Canstein and a general in the German Bundeswehr .

Career

Canstein joined the Reichswehr in 1926 , became an officer candidate in the 4th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment in Kolberg and graduated from the War Academy in Berlin. On January 1, 1939, he was promoted to captain .

During the war Canstein worked in various leadership positions, most recently in the staff of the 4th Panzer Division with the rank of colonel in the general staff.

After the war, Canstein trained as a carpenter and graduated with a journeyman's examination. He later worked as the deputy general manager of the Federal Association of the Wood Processing Industry.

In 1957 Canstein joined the Blank Office and thus joined the newly created Bundeswehr . From 1957 to 1958 he was Head of Staff Department V of the Army Command Staff (FüS), from 1958 to 1959 as Brigadier General Deputy Commander of the 7th Panzer Division in Unna and from 1959 to 1965 Commander of the German Plenipotentiary Center (DBv Mitte), the forerunner service of the later Territorial Command South of the Bundeswehr in Mannheim .

Canstein's first marriage (August 6, 1934) to Kitty von Blaese (born March 16, 1910 in Estonia; † August 4, 1951 in Bremen) and his second marriage (May 29, 1952) to Ursula Brandies, related. War (born July 30, 1923). The first marriage has two sons and a daughter, and the second marriage has another daughter.
