Raban von der Malsburg (born August 5, 1946 in Niederelsungen ; † September 9, 2011 ) was a German art historian and Baden-Württemberg local politician ( CDU ).

Life

Raban von der Malsburg was born in Niederelsungen in northern Hesse in 1946. After graduating from the Friedrichsgymnasium in Kassel , he studied law and art history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1976 he received his doctorate on the architecture of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice . From 1977 he headed the university's central student advisory service and from 1996 to 2000 its center for student advisory services and further education. In addition, in 1993 he took on a teaching position for architectural and art history at the private University of Applied Sciences in Heidelberg . In 2000 he was appointed honorary professor.

In 1980 von der Malsburg was elected to the Heidelberg municipal council for the CDU for the first time . He was a member until 2000, including from 1986 to 1995 as CDU parliamentary group leader. In 1990 he ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Heidelberg, but received only the third highest number of applicants in the runoff election in which the SPD candidate Beate Weber prevailed. In 2000 he became first mayor and thus deputy mayor. He was responsible for the building department. In 2008 he retired.

Raban von der Malsburg's grave is in Berlin's Dahlem forest cemetery .

family

He was the grandson of the manufacturer and mayor of Mannheim Carl Renninger (1881–1951) and great-grandson of the politician and manufacturer Paul Stumpf (1826–1912).
