Racing Club Bobo-Dioulasso (Racing Club de Bobo-Dioulasso) is a sports club from Bobo-Dioulasso , the second largest city in the West African state of Burkina Faso . RCB is the common short form of the name.
The club was created in June 1949 from the merger of US Bobo-Dioulasso (Union sportive bobolaise) and Union Soudanaise Bobo-Dioulasso. USB was the successor to Togo-Daho Bobo-Dioulasso, the oldest club in what is now Burkina Faso, founded in 1935. Togo-Daho was founded by residents of the trading metropolis from Dahomey (now Benin ), Union Soudanaise from French Sudan (now Mali ). The initiators of the merger were among others Karamoko Touré, Moussa Namoko and Roger Ekwé.
The club colors are black and white, in the early days RCB played in jerseys with black and white horizontal stripes. Racing has its roots in the Diarradougou district, hence the nickname Les Panthères de Diarradougou ( French : "the Panthers of Diarradougou").
In the 1950s, the club took part in the French West Africa cup competition several times , but mostly had no chance there, as in the 13-0 defeat by Darsalamy. In the early 1960s, RCB merged with Reconnaissance Bobo-Dioulasso, an association of Malians.
RCB has been three times Burkinabe champion (1972, 1996, 1997) and won the national cup competition (Coupe du Faso) six times (1961, 1962, 1984, 1987, 1995, 2007). With the tournament victory in 1961, Racing became the first cup winner after the independence of the then Upper Volta .
The 2006/07 season ended Racing on the 5th place of the championship and with the win of the cup competition against US Ouagadougou (2-1). With this, the club secured participation in the CAF Confederation Cup 2008.
Since the Stade Omnisports de Bobo-Dioulasso is no longer used for league games due to high maintenance costs, the club plays its home games at the Stade Wobi . The training area is located at the former racecourse in sector 2. The president of the association is Adama Tapsoba, general secretary Amadou Bamba, the first team is trained by Brama Traoré.
Moussa Ouattara , who is under contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern , began his career at RCB.
In January 2007, the association received material donations from the SATCI company.
