from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radio Adria was a German-speaking radio broadcaster based in Aquileia , which existed from 1977 to 1991 and was aimed at tourists on the northern Adriatic coast.

history

In early 1977, the Munich company B. Kukan received approval to operate a German-language radio station in Italy. The Austrian daily Die Presse was the first owner of the newly established radio station, Radio Adria, and was also responsible for the program . From that year on, Radio Adria has broadcast its program every summer for 15 years (from the end of June to mid-September). In 1979 ownership of the technical equipment was transferred to the newly founded company Radio Adria SRL . For a time, partners were among others the magazine Hörzu and the Austrian daily newspaper Kurier .

Due to a reorganization of the Italian media law, Die Presse and Mediaprint , who owned Radio Adria at the time, were unable to continue operating the station and sold it in the winter of 1990/91. Radio Adria was able to broadcast its program again the following summer. However, after this year the holiday channel was finally over due to financial problems.

Transmission area and frequencies

Radio Adria could be received on the VHF frequencies 96.700 MHz, 98.650 MHz and 101.650 MHz on the entire northern Adriatic coast and in Istria and so around 3 million German-speaking tourists in the classic holiday resorts of Rimini , Jesolo , Bibione , Lignano Sabbiadoro , Grado , Caorle ( Italy ) and Poreč , Pula and Rovinj (former Yugoslavia ). The studio was in the northern Italian city of Aquileia, but the actual transmitter was initially on the Piancavallo mountain . Later, the transmitter systems had to be relocated to the Monte Cimone and Pedrosa locations. There were other transmitters in the Rimini region, Bibione and Jesolo, among others.

The studio

Radio Adria's studio was set up in a villa located at 13 Via Enrico Fermi in Aquileia. From the very beginning, interested listeners were able to visit the studio during airtime and take a look behind the scenes at Radio Adria. Over the years, more and more holidaymakers - especially in bad weather - took advantage of this option, so that on some days over 900 visitors could be counted. The gifts for visitors and quiz winners included t-shirts, stickers, postcards, records, a Radio Adria clock (prize in the Quiz 13 competition), a Radio Adria cookbook, a Radio Adria smile book, Sun protection for windscreens, Radio Adria duffel bags and Radio Adria jackets. After the Radio Adria era ended, the house was sold to a private family.

program

Radio Adria's program was mixed and geared towards the whole family. The music programs covered almost all tastes from pop and rock music, chansons, classical music, country music, hits and operettas. There were also children's programs (“Radio Bambini”, “Who knows more?”), Hourly world news, “Italian for vacationers”, “Cooking with Radio Adria” and a daily (!) Hit parade that listeners could determine by phone calls. The piece "Wichita Lineman" by Peter Nero was the signature of the holiday channel. Since 1980 there have also been regular direct connections to other radio stations in German-speaking countries. Since service for vacationers was the clear focus of Radio Adria, the listeners were regularly provided with tips for excursions, event information, current exchange rates, traffic information, sailing weather, information on market days in the region and the opening times of shops and authorities. In addition, Radio Adria offered those who stayed at home the opportunity to contact their relatives on vacation in the broadcasting area via paging.
