history

Radlow has an old history of settlement, noteworthy are several archaeological evidence of settlement in the immediate vicinity of Radlow. These include a stone box of the Teutons from the Bronze Age (2200 to 600 BC) - 800 m southwest of the place, an urn grave field of the Teutons from the Pre-Roman Iron Age (600 BC to 0) - 800 m to the southeast and two late Slavic settlements (1000 to 1200) - 900 to 1300 m southeast of Radlow. In the urns of the cemetery described by Eggers in 1899, some dating additions of two iron fibulae from the Middle Latene period , a bronze arm spiral and other metal objects were preserved. The finds were included in the collection of the University of Greifswald .

The stone box was on a hill (point 42.6) and had been destroyed by rock breakers in 1934. After the remains, the grave could be reconstructed, it was a square stone box, each 75 cm edge length and 75 cm depth. In the grave there was an urn with a lid that had been burnt in the corpse and two beetles. All of the vessels were shattered by the fallen capstone, but the shards were intact and the vessels could all be restored. Inside a jar was a 10.5 cm long roller needle made of bronze, a type that was widespread in the Bronze Age.

Radlow was first mentioned as Radelowe in 1369. It was a Slavic foundation, the possible interpretation of the name is "Hakenpflug".

Since Radlow had to perform plowing services to Hanshagen , it can be assumed that the place belonged to the Eldena monastery . This is confirmed by the fact that it has belonged to the Greifswald University since 1634, because the transfer of the monastery's possessions to the university by the dukes after the Reformation was also common in other places in the district. The university has always leased the property, including in Radlow.

During the Thirty Years' War the place fell desolate in 1633, so in 1634 only the land of the desert was given to the university, which then rebuilt this place itself or through the tenants. It then consisted of the estate with 1,157  acres , which was referred to as the Vorwerk and a Büdnerhof of 6 acres.

Radlow was incorporated into Züssow on July 1, 1950.

In 1865 Radlow had: 99 inhabitants, 1 school, 4 residential buildings and 11 farm buildings.

In 1990 Radlow still had 55 inhabitants, in 2009 there were only 38 and on December 31, 2014 it had 29 residents with a main residence and 5 with a secondary residence.
