Rae Allen

Rae Allen (* 3. July 1926 in Brooklyn , New York as Raffaella Julia Theresa Abruzzo ) is an American actress.

life and career

Rae Allen was born in Brooklyn into a family of Italian descent and took acting classes at HB Studio in Greenwich Village . She made her Broadway debut in 1954 in the world premiere of the hit musical The Pajama Game . The following year, she received a first Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of an astute sports reporter Gloria Thorpe in the original production of the musical Damn Yankees . She played the sports reporter again in the film adaptation of the same name from 1958, which also marked her film debut.

Afterwards, however, Allen concentrated mainly on her stage career, for Traveler Without Luggage she received her second nomination for the Tony Award in 1967. In the third attempt, she finally won this award in the category Best Supporting Actress in 1971 for Paul Zindel's black comedy And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little . From the 1980s, Allen intensified her appearances in film and television, she played guest roles in series such as Lou Grant , Remington Steele , Seinfeld and Grey's Anatomy . In the 2004 television series The Sopranos , she played aunt Quintina Blundetto , mother of Steve Buscemi's character, in five episodes . She also took on a number of supporting roles in the cinema, for example as a scientist in the science fiction film Stargate (1994) and as the landlady of Adam Sandler in the tragic comedy Love in Me (2007). She most recently appeared in the TV series Vampire Mob in 2011 .
