Rafael Ferber

Rafael Ferber (born March 7, 1950 ; resident in Grossdietwil ) is a Swiss emeritus professor of philosophy at the Theological Faculty of the University of Lucerne . His areas of work are ancient philosophy with a focus on Plato and Aristotle, as well as systematic philosophy with a focus on the philosophy of religion . His father was the German publicist Walter Ferber .

Life

After studying philosophy, Greek and German at the universities of Zurich and Freiburg (Switzerland) , Ferber received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Bern . In 1984 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich, where he was appointed adjunct professor in 1992. In 1999, an extraordinary professorship (C 3) followed, with an appointment as a civil servant for life at the University of Cologne . Between 2000 and 2015 Ferber was a full professor at the University of Lucerne.

Ferber published several books on Plato as well as on the fundamental paradox of Zeno by Elea . The generally understandable work Philosophical Basic Concepts , which was published in two volumes by the CH Beck publishing house , became known beyond the specialist world .
