The Raggenhorn near Wengen in the Bavarian district of Oberallgäu and Bolsternang in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ravensburg is 1056.2  m above sea level. NHN high foothills of the Black ridge , the highest mountain in the foothills of the Alps belonging Adelegg .

The summit of the Raggenhorn is located about 950 m south-southeast of the Schwarzen Grat, 1.4 km north-north-west of Wengen , a district of the Bavarian community of Weitnau , and 2 km northeast of Bolsternang , a district of the Württemberg community of Isny im Allgäu .

The Wenger Eggalm (also called Wengener Egg Alpe or Alpe Wenger Egg ) is located northeast below the hilltop . To the northeast, the landscape of the mountain slopes down along the small Rotenbach to Eschach . The Wengener Argen flows to the south as the eastern tributary of the Untere Argen .

Natural allocation

Within the foothills of the Alps , the Raggenhorn belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Nagelfluhhöhen and Senken between Lake Constance and Isar (No. 02) and in the main unit Adelegg (023) to the subunit Hohe (Südliche) Adelegg (023.0).

Protected areas

On the western flank of the Raggenhorn, parts of the Adelegg landscape protection area and the associated tertiary foreland ( CDDA no. 319441; designated in 1994; 65.2  km² in size) and those of the Adelegg bird sanctuary (VSG no. 8226-441; 28 , 61 km²).

Transport, hiking and events

To the north, past Raggenhorn and Schwarzes Grat, the Bavarian district road  OA 20 leads between the Buchenberg districts of Eschach and Eschachthal , which turns into the K 8045 on the Württemberg side. The Bavarian State Road  2055 runs south past between the Weitnau districts of Wengen and Nellenberg . From this, the Württemberg K 8019 branches off at the state border, which leads as a spur road to Bolsternang , located southwest below the Raggenhorn . For example, starting at the Eschacher Weiher car park , which is near the Eschacher Weiher on the OA 20, the mountain can be reached in around 45 minutes on foot. On the first two Sundays in September, a Holy Mass (mountain mass ) is held on the Raggenhorn .
