Raimund Merker

Raimund Merker (* 1965 ) is an ancient and theater scholar and dramaturge.

In 1989 he moved from Germany to Austria, where he studied acting and dramaturgy at the Vienna Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He made his first theater experiences as a small actor and as an assistant director and dramaturge in productions at the Staatstheater Darmstadt . During his art studies he was discovered as a performer and engaged at the Theater der Jugend ( theater in the center , Renaissance theater ). After completing his training he worked in Vienna for two more years. Engagements and tasks led him to city and state theaters in Bremen , Bremerhaven , Tübingen , Munich , Darmstadt, Mühlheim , Mödling and Vienna ( Volkstheater , Theater der Jugend, Theater mbH , Scala , Theater zum Fürchten , Künstlerhaus etc.) where he worked with various was entrusted with artistic tasks and administrative functions.

Parallel to his artistic activity, he studied a combination of theatrical and contemporary history, class, at the historical, philological and cultural studies faculties of the University of Vienna. Philology, Ancient History and Classical Studies which he completed with a doctorate. The scenic reconstruction of tragic representation and production techniques, the Greco-Roman (cultural) history as well as the Third Reich and antiquity form his work and research focus at the University of Vienna , where he has been a pre- and post-doc since 2006 Senior scientist and project leader in the FWF project "Real - Abstract - Imaginary". His research leads him to universities in Greece, Italy, Germany and the UK.
