Rainer Burchardt

Rainer Burchardt (born May 23, 1945 in Bad Segeberg ) is a German journalist. From 1994 to 2006 he was editor-in-chief at Deutschlandfunk .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1965, Rainer Burchardt served in the German Navy , leaving it as a first lieutenant at sea in the reserve. He then studied German, political science and sociology at the University of Kiel . After a traineeship at the Segeberger Zeitung , Burchardt worked as a freelancer in the youth and timed radio of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk .

From 1972 Burchardt was one of the editors responsible for current political news at the Funkhaus Kiel , and was thus also responsible for managing and moderating current political magazines. On the side, he took on an office as deputy spokesman for the Schleswig-Holstein state press conference between 1972 and 1974 . From 1975 he was appointed head of the business editorial office in Kiel. In 1976 he was also given a teaching position at the Schleswig-Holstein Business Academy in Kiel. In addition, until 1978 he worked as a state political correspondent for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . In 1978 he went to the EU headquarters in Brussels as a radio correspondent for NDR and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).

From 1987 to 1991, Burchardt was also the spokesman for the SPD federal executive under party chairman Hans-Jochen Vogel .

In 1994 Burchardt became editor-in-chief of Deutschlandfunk; he left this position in 2006. Since then he has taught at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences and to this day at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences.

He is the author and contributor of nine issues of the daily program " Background " in the DLF and other programs.
