Rainer Nägele

Rainer Nägele (born August 2, 1943 in Triesen , Liechtenstein ) is an American literary scholar .

Life

Nägele studied at the Universities of Innsbruck , Göttingen and Santa Barbara German . From 1979 to 2005 he was Professor of German Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore . Since 2006 he has been Professor of German and Comparative Literature at Yale University . Nägele lives and works in Paris and New Haven .

His main research interests are literary theory , aesthetics , philosophy and psychoanalysis . He is particularly interested in the authors Friedrich Hölderlin , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Charles Baudelaire , Walter Benjamin , Franz Kafka and Sigmund Freud .
