Raja de Casablanca ( Arabic نادي الرجاء الرياضي, DMG Nādī r-Raǧāʾ ar-riyāḍī ) is a Moroccan sports club from Casablanca , which is best known for its football team, which plays in GNF 1 . It is considered a working class association.
Raja Casablanca, one of the most popular teams in Morocco, has long been one of the top clubs on a continental level. In her own country, Raja has always rivaled Wydad Casablanca .
history
General
The association was founded in 1949 by Moroccan nationalists in the French colony. Therefore, only Moroccan players played for the club back then. Game operations began in the Division d'Honneur , the lowest Moroccan league. They managed to march straight through to the first division, in which they have been playing since 1951. For years, the team was known in the league for their entertaining, albeit unsuccessful, football before the first championship title was won in 1988, which has now been followed by ten more.
Numerous titles
In addition to Wydad Casablanca and FAR Rabat, Raja Casablanca can also refer to an extensive trophy collection. Unlike its two immediate competitors, who won their titles between the 1950s and 1970s and the early 1990s (Wydad Casablanca) and between the 1960s and 1980s (FAR Rabat), Raja's real heyday did not begin until the end of the 80s a. Raja fans had to wait almost 40 years for their team to become Moroccan champions for the first time in 1988 - under their first foreign coach, the Portuguese Fernando Cabrita . That title win ushered in a new era that finally brought the club seven more championship titles within the record time of eight years (1996-2004).
Between 1996 and 2001, Raja was the dominant team in the Moroccan championship and won six titles in a row. A series of successes that no other Moroccan club has so far been able to boast. The team experienced the absolute climax of their triumphal procession in 1999 when Raja became the most successful club team in Africa after winning the CAF Champions League, the African Super Cup and the Afro-Asian Cup competition.
As a result, Raja Casablanca also qualified for the 2000 FIFA Club World Cup, which was held in Brazil. There, the Moroccans were eliminated after three defeats against Corinthians São Paulo (0-2), Al Nassr (3-4) and Real Madrid (2-3).
In addition, Raja Casablanca has won the Moroccan Cup eight times.
And Raja has also won several trophies in Casablanca on the international stage. While the Moroccans have so far won three awards (1989, 1997, 1999) in the most important continental club competition, the CAF Champions League, they have won the CAF Cup (2003), the African Super Cup (2003) and the Afro-Asian Cup (1998) and the Arab Champions League (2006).
In the 2012/13 season, the team won the double . As champions of the host country, they qualified for the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup . After three wins in a row, Raja Casablanca surprisingly reached the final of the tournament, in which they lost 2-0 to the UEFA Champions League winner FC Bayern Munich .

Stadion
Raja Casablanca plays his home games in the Stade Mohammed V (named after King Mohammed V ), which is located in the middle of a larger area with several sports facilities in the Maarif district. The venue is used jointly with city rival Wydad. The stadium, inaugurated on March 6, 1955, has space for 55,000 spectators and has already been rebuilt and modernized several times. In 2007 the playing field was completely renewed and replaced by a lawn with artificial turf of internationally recognized quality. On this occasion, the seats in the grandstands and side stands were modernized and the track for athletics competitions was renewed.
