Ramiro Gallo

Ramiro Gallo (* 1966 in the province of Santa Fe ) is an Argentine tango musician.

Life

As the son of a family of musicians, Gallo played Argentine folk music with his parents and siblings as a child. He received his first training in the Children's Orchestra of the Province of Santa Fe under the direction of Roberto Benítez . He later studied violin with Ljerko Spiller . After graduating, he was a musician in various symphony and chamber orchestras in Argentina and South Africa.

Gallo lived in Paraná for several years . Here he belonged to the groups El Molino (with Carlos Aguirre , Leonardo González and Luis Barbiero ) and Indigo (with the guitarist Ernesto Méndez ). With the Trio Vázquez-Gallo-Barbiero he recorded the album Barrio tranquilo . From 1997 to 2005 he was a member of the El Arranque group. With this he undertook concert tours through Europe, Japan, Taiwan, the USA and Latin America. At a concert in Lincoln Center in New York he performed his composition Suite Borgeana (based on motifs by Jorge Luis Borges ) with El Arranque and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis .

In 1998 Gallo moved to Buenos Aires and became a member of the Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires . From 2000 to 2008 he was its first violinist and assistant to the director Emilio Balcarce . The orchestra performed a. a. at the Théâtre national de Chaillot and worked with musicians such as José Libertella , Julián Plaza , Atilio Stampone , Néstor Marconi and Raúl Garello .

In 2000 Gallo founded his own tango quintet, which includes the guitarist Martin Vázquez , the bandoneon player Lucía Ramírez , the bassist Marcos Roffo and the pianist Adrián Enríquez . He toured several European countries, Thailand, Brazil and China with the quintet and recorded several albums with the group. He later expanded it to the Santa Fe Jazz Ensamble septet formation .

In 2001 Gallo traveled to Germany at the invitation of the Tango Fusion group , where he performed with the Jena Philharmonic and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra . On a 2004 tour of Japan, he performed with bandoneon player Ryota Kumatsu . In 2006 he realized the dance spectacle Grotesca Pasión Trasnochada with his quintet and the company No bailarás under the direction of the choreographer Silvana Grill based on their own compositions.

In the same year Gallo was elected guest conductor of the Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina "Juan de Dios Filiberto" , with whom he performed a number of his own compositions. In 2008 he founded the Ensemble Ramiro Gallo y la Orquesta Arquetípica , with which he made his debut at the 10th Tango Festival in Buenos Aires. With this and the guests Ariel Ardit , Leopoldo Federico , Lidia Borda , Alberto Podestá and Víctor Lavallén he recorded the album Arte Popular .
