Ramiro Ortiz

Ramiro Ortiz (* 1. July 1879 in Chieti ; † 26. July 1947 in Padua ) was an Italian linguist , Italianist, Hispanist , Rumänist and comparative literature , in Italy and in Romania worked.

life and work

Ortiz studied Romance Philology in Naples (with Francesco D'Ovidio ) and at the University of Florence (with Pio Rajna , Ernesto Giacomo Parodi and Guido Mazzoni ). In 1909 he went to the University of Bucharest , where he was professor of Italian from 1913 to 1916 and from 1919 to 1933 (his successor was Alexandru Marcu ). In 1921 he founded the magazine Roma there and in 1924 the Italian cultural institute. From 1933 until his death he was the successor of Vincenzo Crescini professor at the University of Padua .

Ortiz had a correspondence with his student Nina Façon that was published in 2007 and in which he clearly demarcated himself from the anti-Semitism of his time.

Ortiz was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy . In 1940 he was elected to the Royal Academy of Italy ( Reale Accademia d'Italia ).
