Randale is a 1982, German feature film by Manfred Purzer with Angelica Domröse in the leading role.

action

The only 22-year-old Andrea, a student of social pedagogy, arrives one day at Schloss Bucheneck, a closed home in southern Germany for difficult-to-educate girls, in order to gain practical experience on site. Her ideas are very idealistic, but she soon realizes that theory cannot be reconciled with hard reality. She would like her approach to be characterized by understanding and peaceful cooperation, but the picture that opens up to her on site is completely different: As soon as she arrives, Andrea is confronted with constant rebellion and willingness to revolt, which the girls face in the face of constant controls and through the Educators reject the constraints exerted on the day. Mistrust of all educators is the order of the day, sometimes it is harmless actions such as refusing to eat or bad table manners, sometimes it is downright fistfight. Power games, rivalries and provocations are part of this daily “business”, a kind of survival training based on Darwin's motto “ Survival of the Fittest ”.

Even the actually assertive and resolute group leader Elisabeth Schuritz can hardly get the situation under control. Soon the young women are just making the eponymous rampage, and the situation escalates. Two of the girls succeed in literally abseiling out of a window of the “closed” and escaping into freedom. But they cannot enjoy their freedom beyond the prison walls for a long time, because one of them falls into the hands of a pimp who “sells” them to guest workers on the construction site, the other is hit by a car while the police are chasing them. Meanwhile, a tragedy occurs in the home: When Andrea destroys a 16-year-old's dream of a strong, saving father, she takes the teenager's love anchor and lifeline. The resident then tries to burn herself. Deeply shocked by the consistency of her well-intentioned intention, Andrea decides to turn her back on the home.

Interesting facts and production notes

In February, the Münchner Abendzeitung helped with the search for actresses for the 13 to 16 year old residents with its article “Who wants to make a riot?” As a result, around 200 girls applied for a casting. A total of six were taken.

Randale was co-produced with ZDF in spring / mid-1982 around Munich and was premiered on April 30, 1983.

The film structures were designed by Peter Rothe .

Reviews

“In an explosive mixture of action and anarchy, the author / director Manfred Purzer describes the often hyper-aggressive everyday life in German correctional institutions. It tells of a youth that feels abandoned by adults. "

“Insignificant film on an interesting subject that deserves more original and serious treatment. Sloppily staged, full of clichés. "
