Raphaël Sévère (born September 15, 1994 in Rennes ) is a French clarinetist .

biography

Sévère was born into a family of musicians. He studied at the Nantes Conservatory and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris , where he was accepted at the age of 14. He received his master's degree in June 2013.

He was awarded first prize in the Tokyo competition at the age of 12 (category up to 20 years) and was appointed instrumental soloist at the Victoires de la Musique in 2009 at the age of 15 . In November 2013 he won the Young Concerts Artists International Auditions in New York as well as eight special prizes in this competition.

Raphaël Sévère has performed as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , Sinfonia Varsovia , the Russian National Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Poland, the Budapest String Chamber Orchestra , the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn , S. Luke's, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

In chamber music his partners are the quartets Ebène , Modigliani, Prazák, Sine Nomine, Martha Argerich , Boris Berezovsky , Jean-Frédéric Neuburger , Frank Braley , Gidon Kremer , David Grimal, Gérard Caussé, Antoine Tamestit , Gary Hoffman, Xavier Philips, François Salque.

He performed with the pianist Adam Laloum and the cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière, with whom he recorded a Brahms CD for Mirare, which received the Diapason d'Or de l'année in 2015.

Also a composer, he created his first piece "Obscurs" for clarinet and guitar in 2016, published by L'empreinte mélodique.
