Rati Aleksidze ( Georgian რატი ალექსიძე; born August 3, 1978 in Tbilisi ) is a former Georgian football player . Most recently, he was under contract in his home country with FC Dila Gori , where he ended his career in spring 2014 due to an injury.

Club career

Start time

Aleksidze started his career in the youth of Dinamo Tbilisi . In the 1994/95 season he signed his first professional contract with the second division club Mretebi Tiflis. At Mretebi he developed into a valuable addition to the then star of the team Micheil Sadschaia and was able to celebrate the championship title in the Georgian second division and the associated promotion at the end of the season.

He was then brought back from his home club Dinamo. Despite his playful versatility, he was unable to prevail against the established offensive forces such as Aleksandre Iaschwili , Giorgi Demetradze or Gotscha Jamarauli in what was then the “non plus ultra” of Georgian football . Only after the departure of Iashvili for the 1996/97 season he made his debut for Dinamo's professional team. Two seasons followed, in which he switched back and forth between the regular seat and the reserve bank. At that time he had already made a name for himself as a great talent due to good performance in the Georgian youth teams. In 1998 the long-awaited performance explosion followed. Aleksidse formed together with David Mujiri , who was also considered a great offensive talent , an outstanding storm duo. Together they could achieve 31 league goals this season. In the end, Tbilisi became Georgian champions with a goal difference of 86:15. After he was able to achieve twelve goals in 14 games in the 1999/2000 season, he aroused the interest of some international clubs.

Switch to Chelsea

Among other things, Aleksidse was invited to a trial training session by the then Chelsea FC manager Gianluca Vialli in autumn 1999 , in which he was able to convince. After at Chelsea by the long-term failure of Pierluigi Casiraghi and shape weakness of George Weah and Chris Sutton with Gianfranco Zola and Tore André Flo had only two reliable striker for disposal, they sought desperately for alternatives. Vialli saw this in Aleksidze and signed him. Contrary to expectations, Aleksidze was subsequently unable to integrate into the team and was only used in cup games under Vialli. It was only under coach Claudio Ranieri that he was allowed to play twice in the Premier League in the 2000/01 season , but without recommending himself with lasting effect. In 2001 his contract was terminated.

Return & Convalescence

Then Aleksidze returned to Georgia to play again for Dinamo, which, however, were not interested in a renewed commitment. Despite several offers from other Georgian clubs, he was reluctant to play for a club other than Dinamo, and asked to simply train with Dinamo. In 2002 he got a contract with his parent club. One and a half more strong seasons followed, in which he was able to score a total of 17 goals this season and found his old strength again. In 2004 he dared to move abroad to the Russian Premier League club FK Rostov . Once again, however, there was no success for Aleksidze. He only played nine games without scoring before he was involved in a serious car accident from which he did not recover for over three years. Despite several comeback attempts, he did not seem to be fit anymore, which is why he announced his early retirement.

comeback

In the 2007/08 season, Aleksidze made a surprising comeback for Lokomotiv Tbilisi . He answered the big doubts about his physical condition with a sensational quota of nine goals in his first eleven appearances of the season after a three-year break. After he was able to score six goals in another 13 games in 2008, he moved again abroad to Hungary to Győri ETO FC . In Győr he immediately gained a regular place and advanced to one of the team's leading players. After the ninth place in the table in the 2008/09 season, they are currently at the top of the table in Hungary with 20 points from ten season games.

National team

In the Georgian youth selection, he caused a sensation alongside players such as Levan Kobiaschwili , Aleksandre Iaschwili , Kacha Kaladze and his later congenial strike partner at Dinamo, David Mujiri .

On November 18, 1998, he made his debut in the Georgian national soccer team , where he was a regular until his serious injury in 2004. At the same time as his comeback in club football, he was again accepted into the Georgian national team, to which he has been a member to date.
