Levan Kobiashvili ( Georgian ლევან კობიაშვილი ; English transcription Levan Kobiashvili ) (born July 10, 1977 in Tbilisi ) is a former Georgian soccer player who was last under contract with Hertha BSC . Since June 2, 2007 he has been the record player for the Georgian national soccer team .
Kobiashvili has been President of the Georgian Football Association since October 2015 .
Athletic career
Sc freiburg
Levan Kobiaschwili began his career at Avasa Tbilisi. About Metalurg Rustawi, Dynamo Tiflis and Alanija Wladikawkas, he moved to SC Freiburg in the 2nd Bundesliga in early 1998 , where he played on the left wing under coach Volker Finke . In his first half series in Germany, the Georgian and his club went straight to the Bundesliga. In the summer of 1998, the Georgian loaner initially returned to Tbilisi, but was soon committed again by SC, with whom he established himself in the Bundesliga. In 2001 he was even able to qualify with his team for the UEFA Cup; SC Freiburg finished 6th in the league after the 34th matchday. In the 2001/02 season , the Breisgauer had to go back to the second division. However, it succeeded the direct rise in the 2002/03 season .
Schalke 04
After the promotion season with Freiburg Kobiaschwili moved to FC Schalke 04, for which he was mainly used as a left full-back and in the defensive midfield. With Schalke, the Georgian was twice runner-up ( 2004/05 and 2006/07 ), which each meant direct qualification for the Champions League . In 2005 Kobiaschwili was in the DFB Cup final , which Schalke lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich .
During his six and a half years at FC Schalke, Kobiaschwili played his way into the European Cup record lists: He played 35 European Cup games for the Royal Blues and is third among the players with the most European Cup appearances for Schalke. In these 35 games he scored seven goals and is in fourth place in this statistic together with Klaus Fischer , Kevin Kurányi and Lincoln . He also played six European Cup games (one goal) for SC Freiburg and one game (no goal) for Hertha BSC, to which he moved in January 2010.
Hertha BSC
Kobiaschwili only made four appearances at Schalke in the 2009/10 season at the beginning of the first half of the season and only played a minor role in the club's plans, which is why he switched to Hertha BSC . He signed a contract with Hertha BSC until June 30, 2010, which was extended in May 2010 to June 30, 2013. Kobiaschwili was used as a left full-back for the Berliners.
After the Bundesliga relegation second leg against Fortuna Düsseldorf on May 15, 2012 Levan Kobiaschwili was accused by DFB referee Wolfgang Stark of having beaten him after the game. Strongly filed a complaint against Kobiashvili. After admitting the blow, the sports court of the DFB sentenced Kobiashvili on June 4, 2012 to a suspension until December 31, 2012. This is the longest suspension that has ever been imposed on a player in German professional football. Kobiashvili accepted the sentence. He himself then vehemently denied an admission of guilt before the DFB court. In December 2012, he also agreed to a penalty order agreed with the Düsseldorf public prosecutor in the amount of 60,000 euros.
National team
On October 11, 2011, he played his 100th international match in the European Championship qualifier against Greece . It was the last game of his selection career, which had started in September 1996.
