The trachyboa boulengeri ( Trachyboa boulengeri ) is a non-toxic snakes art from the family of tropidophiidae (Tropidophiidae). It is endemic to Central and South America .
features
Trachyboa boulengeri has a stocky build and a total length of up to 43 cm. The body color is coffee brown, on the side of the body there are two parallel rows of black and red-brown spots. The clearly keeled body scales lie in 29 to 33 rows around the middle of the body. The head is clearly separated from the neck. At the top, the following show pholidotische characteristics: total small keeled scales, a missing or reduced rostral ( rostral ), 0.5 to 1.0, hornlike raised scales mm long over the eyes and the tip of the snout, 11 to 12 upper lip shields ( supralabials ) and 1 to 2 rows of scales between the lower edge of the eye and the shields of the upper lip. The red-brown colored and black spotted ventral side is covered by 131 to 142 ventral shields ( Venralia ), the underside of the tail by 20 to 28 subcaudal shields ( Subcaudalia ). The anal shield ( scutum anale ) is not divided.
Way of life
The Rauschuppe boa can be seen climbing in trees ( arborikol ), in caves and under fallen leaves and dead wood. Humid to very humid habitats are populated. Trachyboa boulengeri is a hide hunter , the prey spectrum of the species includes lizards , frogs and small birds . There are reports of capturing small fish . The propagation is done by ovoviviparity , the snake is so egg-viviparous.
distribution
The distribution area of trachyboa boulengeri extends from Panama through Colombia to western Ecuador .
etymology
The species name , boulengeri , was chosen in honor of the Belgian - British zoologist ( herpetologist , ichthyologist ) George Albert Boulenger .
