Raymond W. Field (born May 24, 1944 in Dublin ) is an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop emeritus in the Archdiocese of Dublin .

life and career

Raymond Field received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Dublin on May 17, 1970 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Dublin and titular bishop of Árd Mór on May 28, 1997 . The Archbishop of Dublin, Desmond Connell , ordained him episcopally on September 21 of that year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Luciano Storero , and the Bishop of Ossory , Laurence Forristal .

Following the publication of the Ryan Report and the Murphy Report , which exposed the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and young people in the Irish Roman Catholic Church , he offered the Pope his resignation on Christmas Eve 2009. At a Christmas mass he announced his personal complicity in the abuse of thousands of children in Ireland and apologized to the victims. As in the case of Auxiliary Bishop Eamonn Oliver Walsh , who had also offered the Pope his resignation, the Pope refused to accept the resignation in August 2010.

On June 27, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
