Reed Franklin Morse

Reed Franklin Morse (also Reed F. Morse , born April 26, 1898 in Fredericksburg , Chickasaw County , Iowa , † March 24, 1992 in Gainesville , Alachua County , Florida ) was an American civil engineer .

Life

Family and education

Reed Franklin Morse, the youngest of four children of Calvin Leonard Morse (1853-1923) and Kathryn O'Day Morse (1857-1944), received after graduating from high school in 1919 a Bachelor of Arts in engineering from Cornell College at Mount Vernon . He then studied civil engineering at Iowa State College in Ames , and in 1923 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering . He continued his studies at Kansas State College , in 1933 he earned a Master of Arts degree . Morse was in 1941 at Cornell University for Ph. D. in Civil Engineering PhD .

Reed Franklin Morse married Doris Luane Valentine (1897–1973) on August 6, 1924. The son Richard Hugh (1928–1996) came from this connection. He died in 1992 at the age of 93. He found his final resting place next to his wife in Evergreen Cemetery in Gainesville.

Professional background

Reed Franklin Morse was employed as an instructor in civil engineering at Kansas State College since 1923, in 1926 he moved to the Kansas Highway Department in Topeka as a resident engineer , and in 1927 he was appointed Assistant Divisional Engineer. In 1929 Reed Franklin Morse returned to Kansas State College as a Civil Engineering Instructor, in 1934 he was appointed Assistant Professor , 1941 Associate Professor , and 1945 Professor of Civil Engineering . In 1947 he was appointed head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and in 1966 he retired . In addition, he was employed as a senior stress analyst for Goodyear Aircraft Corporation from 1944 to 1945.

Reed Franklin Morse, who made a name for himself in the field of road construction , became a member of the Sigma Tau, the Tau Beta Pi, the Chi Epsilon, the Phi Kappa Phi, the American Society of Civil Engineers , the American Society for Engineering Education and the Kansas Engineering Society, which he presided over in 1955. Reed Franklin Morse was President of the Manhattan Kiwanis Club.
